As we had purchased our tickets online via the hotel, there was no waiting in the very long queue. We concentrated just on the floor dealing with the period 1600-1700, and that took us quite some hours. There is so much to see and despite the crowds, the gallery's are so spacious that was never really that difficult to look at something.
Maybe Rembrandts, The Nightwatch, was an exception, but it was still easy enough to get a good look at it. I have been to more crowded viewings of a famous painting.
Photography was allowed, but without flash. The gallery has very good write ups next to all the exhibits. Some of the more detailed paintings, like the Nightwatch, had large A3 cards available going into much more detail about the individual elements of the painting.
