The Australian Open is on and Jenny, Laura, Nick and I went on Thursday and had a great day out.
Our tickets were for the Margaret Court Arena which now has a closable roof - the third arena at the centre to have that facility. The roof was installed last year and takes just five minutes to close - whereas the Rod Laver roof, being twenty years older takes 20!
The days tennis started off with Hot Shots - small children having a knock about. One of them was picked to toss the coin to start the first match, which was Monfils vs Mahut.
It was not a very exciting match as they did not seem able to break one another's serve. Monfils had the edge and won in three sets.
The next match was Azarenka vs Kovinic which Azarenka won. But I do wish she could have done it quietly!

After those two matches we left the court and went in search of lunch. We the watched some of the outside courts where the doubles were being played.

We again saw Mahut - playing doubles this time. It had turned really hot and
he was in full sun. Playing two matches in this heat must be very punishing. |

Since a few years ago, when the temperature became a bit of a
problem, water spray fans have been provided to help cool off. |
