Hermitage Collection at The National Gallery of Victoria

The gallery in the city has a special exhibition of things from the Catherine the Greats collection in the Hermitage in St Petersburg.  There were mainly paintings but some other artefacts like cameo's, dining settings and jewellery.

As always the exhibition was very well done. An attempt had been made to get the feel of the Hermitage with the floors being changed to reflect the floor of the actual building.  On entry to the exhibits, a huge screens displayed a walk down the corridor of the building, giving one the feeling of walking through to the actual gallery.  Here it was possible to see how sumptuous the Hermitage is, with magnificently painted ceilings.
