Bergen - Oslo - Stockholm

Our Hotel - the coloured bit...
Stockholm Town Hall
The Royal Residence
Wednesday we left Bergen in the morning by train for Oslo where we stayed overnight before taking an afternoon train to Stockholm. It was really late when we arrived in Stockholm and pretty dark so we did not see anything of the city until Friday morning. Our hotel is the narrowest in Norway and was in the old town, which has some really narrow streets.

We rather liked Stockholm - it is clean and fairly modern - away from the old town, that is. It consists of many islands, connected by many bridges. The first day we looked at the Royal Palace, the Town Hall and an amazing salvaged boat - The Vasa This sunk on its maiden voyage in 1628 in the harbour but due to the brackish water it was in it remained almost whole. It is huge. Of course, it needed extensive stabilisation! The second day we spent a lot of time in the Nobel Museum, which like in Oslo was really well done. Then in the afternoon we had a cruise on to the Royal Residence and had a good walk in the grounds.

This morning we had to get out to the airport for a lunchtime flight to London and we are now back at Stifford Clays.
