Between the wedding and now we have not done much except on Saturday we drove to Poole to see Rob and Jenny. It happened to be Cup Final day so the roads were really quite empty – until we got to the roads around Poole. We managed to get to Canford Heath with out any problems though. The estate has really spread since we lived there and it no longer has the look of an estate. We had a lovely visit with Rob and his family. Graeme and Richard came over to see us too. Jenny had some questions about Australia – they will be staying with us for a few days in December as they will be over for Graeme’s wedding up in Cairns.
Yesterday we took a drive over the river to find the new Ebbsfleet International station so that we know where we are going tomorrow when we leave for France. It was only about 30 minutes from Stifford Clays but it was a Sunday so it will be interesting to see how long it takes us tomorrow. We are dropping the Avis car there and get the Euro Star over to Paris, picking up another car from Avis when we return. It all seems very convenient. The station is very modern with lots of parking available.
In the afternoon we had a drive down to World’s End at Tilbury Riverside and walked along to Tilbury Fort. It looked in good repair and was open for visitors. We walked back along the sea wall to the car and could see the old pier over at Gravesend was still operational even though the passenger ferry no longer appears to run. Tilbury Riverside is now an International Cruise terminal and a container port. The roads around here are completely different to what we remember. Going to Tilbury we past The Bull and went along what we thought was Dock Road and suddenly found ourselves back at Daneholes Roundabout. Not sure how that happened!
