Today we went to Jerez, where sherry comes from and Cadiz in the evening we were booked to go to a flamenco show. The weather was much cooler as we started out, low 20’s and quite misty. First stop was at Jerez at the Sandiman winery. Here we were given an explanation of how sherry is made and then given a very substantial tasting of dry, medium and sweet. The medium was quite pleasant. The chimney of the building had nesting Storks on them - the babies looked pretty big!
After that it was onto Cadiz, a pretty little coastal town. Here we had plenty of time to look around and to have lunch. Robin and I picked a restaurant in the square and we each had a mixture of mixed fried fish. Despite the bones in some of the fish we did pretty well with it. We had calamari, tiny sardines, small sardines, an whole unknown flat fish a bit like plaice and a cutlet of some sort. One of our companions said it was barracuda. Robin ate my piece of that as one mouthful told me it had been marinaded in vinegar!
After Cadiz it was back to the hotel where I went to Macca’s again for a decent cup of coffee. At 6:30 we were back on the bus to go to the Flamenco Show. The show was at a venue next to the bullring. Apparently no native of Seville would entertain going at such an early hour. Everyone is out late here. Last night when Robin and I returned to the hotel after ten, there were still families with small children about.
