The aim of our visit to Portsmouth was to visit the Mary Rose, the Tudor ship that has been salvaged from the silt at the bottom of the harbour and undergone restoration. Unfortunately we could not see the boat, as the exhibition was being redone and we are a month early for the reopening. However, we were able to see some artefacts from it and we spent some time speaking to the guides that were showing them.
The building the Mary Rose is housed looks like a wooden cruise ship. Even Henry VIII was there....a bit waxen maybe.
We stopped for coffee and cakes on the terrace, as did a gull on the next table. After our break we continued around the dock yard exhibits, including the HMS Victory, and the museum.
As part of our entry fee we had a harbour cruse too. There were two Normandy ferries in port, one of them being a Tassie built catermaran.
The Isle of Wight ferry also comes out of this harbour. The building with the Union Jack is something to do with Landrover. The harbour cruise stopped off at the riverside shopping centre where the car was parked so we got off there to save ourselves a walk.
