Last full day in Palermo

We have been pretty busy checking out the sights here. Monreale was another bus trip as it is some way from the town.  We saw the cathedral there and would have spent more time in the church but a a mass was about to start so we got our marching orders.  This church too has amazing mosaics, with a really nice painting of Jesus over the alter.

Back down the hill we went on to the cappuchine chapel that has a catacomb - it was really very interesting and not at all weird  seeing all the skeletons in their best clothes.  Earliest 'mummy' because really that is what they are, is round 1590, and the last interment was 1920. No photos allowed in there, so I can't show you any :-) probably would not anyway as I don't think they are everyone 's cup of tea.

Then yesterday we went to the puppet museum, which was really good.  Sicily has a traditions of puppet theatre - apparently in the old days they were only for males to watch though.  Talk about a man 's world - even today,  there are invariably groups of them sitting around in the town. Wonder where the women are? Probably cooking cleaning washing etc, all those mundane things...

Today we had a look at the  opera house here, very plush - I am pretty sure women are allowed in there :-)
