We departed Venice right on time and in under an hour had
left the lagoon and headed down the Adriatic for our next destination, Split.
After a nice breakfast (smoked salmon omelette – I could get
used to this life!) we presented ourselves to the departure point of our tour. The ship is too large to dock in the harbour
so the lifeboats double-up as runabouts to ferry everyone over to the
town. It is just a five minute
ride. We had just chosen to do a stroll around
the town, primarily to see Diocletian’s palace.
Most of the walls of the palace are still standing but within them are
houses dating back to the medieval days when the palace was used as a quarry
for building houses within the walls.
After the tour we were left to our own devices in the
town. The last runabout back to the ship
is at 3:30 and then we head off again at 4 pm.
It was really hot so after a brief walk to the fish market as recommended
by the guide we returned to the ship for lunch.
It is very peaceful moored out here, watching the sailing
boats etc. As it is Sunday there are a
lot of people out on the water.
