Nick's 13th Birthday

Kate has made Nick a birthday cake for most of his birthdays and he no longer requests what she makes, but instead sets a challenge!  This years challenge was a whoopee pie croquembouche - no, we had never heard of one either.  Anyway, Kate took up the challenge.  Baking the pies was a piece of cake  - building them up  was not, but with Sam's help it was done.

The cake was compared to the book - Jen vetoes
colouring in cakes, hence  chocolate whoopee pies.
There was a moment of panic when it looked like we might have a
catastrophe, but the tower held!
There are signs of spring around - and not before time.  Jenny's daffodils are out and look really pretty.

The garden looks really lovely, Jen and Michael have worked hard at it. The trees that were planted along the boundary before the house was built are quite a tall screen now.  A few years ago Jenny purchased really small silver birches - just sticks really - and they have taken really well.  They will be lovely trees when mature.

Just tell Jen and Michael not to let their silver birches get too big. We have some near us, planted in recent years by the council, that are over tall now. The seeds are really annoying too - they have just started again and literally millions get everywhere outside and in! Their garden looks very nice though!
