Gravesend

Robin and I both have memories of taking the passenger ferry over to Gravesend. when we were young there were several boats - the Edith and the Rose are the onces we remembered.

The passenger ferry is still running - but just one little boat that takes around five minutes to nip across the river.

Before the days of the Dartford Crossing the ferry was very busy, but today there were just five people on the boat.

There used to be a car ferry here too but that was discontinued soon after the first Dartford Tunnel was opened.  The boat today docked at the old car terminal area as the  passsenger terminal has been made into a restaurant so that landing there is not possible now.

Gravesend has a lot of old interesting buildings. We took a walk through the market building, walked along the waterfront and went to St George's where Pocahontas is supposed to be buried. Her grave cannot be found but there is a statue of her in the grounds.

That's interesting about Pocahontas being buried in England. Didn't know that!
