Samantha and Nick have been staying with us for a few days to make it easier for Jenny and Michael to start moving into the new house. Robin and I took them to the Emigration Museum in the city. It is a really interesting museum and the kids enjoyed it too.
We were amazed to find that there was input from someone who emigrated here from Grays—shouldn't really have been surprised as so many people did come out here. I can remember kids at school leaving to go to Australia quite often.
The museum has a lot of hands on things—the kids were given passports to fill out and at the end of the visit, these were stamped. They tried on Life Jackets, lay in the bunks, and conducted an interview with a prospective Australian.
