Vlissingen & Antwerp

We are back in Holland today at the port of Vlissingen.  The weather is suddenly warm, no wind and just lovely. Our tour today was to the sea defences built across the delta  after the floods of 1953. It was really interesting, an amazing engineering feat.

It was quite a long walk to the sea defence from the visitor centre but there was a little tractor train that carried us back. The final part of the tour was the Flood Experience, which gave was an audio visual experience 'in the round' of how it sounded and looked as the flood waters came. It was very well done. Over 1,800 people list their lives in Holland and there were also a couple of hundred fatalities in England.

The ship left port again at about 12:30 for Antwerp. We are here until mid afternoon tomorrow when we head back to Amsterdam
