Australian Open 2017

Thursday 19th was our annual trip to the tennis and like last year we had seats in Margaret Court Arena.  There has been a lot of work done to the tennis centre since last year and the extra entrance from the river is really good.  From Flinders Street to the centre is only around fifteen minutes.

It was a sunny day and quite warm but we sat under shade all the time so we were fine.  The court itself must have been a different case though - full sun the entire time.

Our view of the court, waiting for the matches to begin
In the morning we watched two matches of round two.  The first match was Karolina Pliskova vs Anna Blinkova, then it was Dominika Cibulkova vs Su-Wei Hsieh.   Half way through the second match we left for lunch, thinking that Cibulkova would win easily but Hsieh held on.  Michael, Nick and Ryan watched the end of that match on the big garden screen while we finished out lunch.

We found a shady spot in the Garden Square to eat our lunch
After lunch we returned to our seats to watch Gilles Muller vs Milos Raonic. This game went to five sets and Raonic won.
