Flag Fen

We drove over to Peterborough to visit the site of a Woodhenge, Flag Fen.  The weather was good - we have been very lucky and so we were able to walk right around the site. The remnants of the henge are kept in a climate controlled building.  Also on display were several canoes, which were being preserved, very much in the fashion of the Vasa, and the Mary Rose.

There is quite a lot of history in this area of the fens. Our accomodation for the night was a 16th century Inn - renovated thank goodness with all mod cons.  Our bedroom floor was decidedly 16th century though, with quite a lean in parts.

The inn was really in the middle of nowhere, at a road junction quite a way between two villages.
The only thing for us to look at was a large sluice, part of the drainage system of the fens.
