Thinning out day for our gum tree

Just around four years ago we had the gum tree pruned by a tree expert.  He took the excess weight out of the crown so to ensure that the tree is safe.  Gums have a habit of dropping limbs - unexpectedly.  We decided that now was the time to do it again as next doors were doing work in the garden, and of course, the tree does hang over the fence. Here is is at the beginning of the day...

... and here it is at the end of the day.    The tree looks a lot lighter and so it should - the back garden was full of branches.  We had no mess at all - all the branches were mulched by the guy's very large mulcher, which scared the daylights out of the cat, who disappeared under the bed in one of the back bedrooms for most of the day. The olive tree just behind the carport and in front of the gum still needs a prune - we shall have a look at that ourselves this weekend  - it is only a shortie compared to the gum.
