Greenwich

We have not really done much while in Grays except catch up with friends and family.  Wednesday though, we had a day out to the Royal Observatory at Greenwich.  It is a really interesting place, dating back to Charles II.

I had been here many years before on a primary school trip.  That time I had arrived by boat, from the Tower.  My memory of it was that we got off the boat and the observatory was next to the pier – completely wrong... The observatory is quite a long walk from the pier, being at the other end of the royal park, at the top of the hill – probably a kilometre or more!

We walked down the hill to the Queens Building and then had a brief look in the Maritime Museum before returning back up the hill for the drive home.  It was only around 4pm but the tunnel traffic was already building up.
