When we moved here is 1973 at the other end of the town was a quarry. Occasionally we could hear the blasting, if the wind was in the right direction. Some years ago it was closed down and the scar of the quarry healed over so it was no longer visible when driving toward the hill along the Burwood Highway. Then the council decided it could be made into a 'feature' and houses could be built on the level ground that had not been cut away.
It has been some years in the making, and is still a work in progress but it is coming along nicely now. The houses look quite established and the planned park area has been landscaped. Now work is being done to access the lake at the bottom of the quarry and it looks quite nice. It will be a nice area to walk to and around. It would be a round trip of about five kilometres - must do that one nice evening.

Looking at the first photo I would never have guessed that it had been a quarry. The second photo gives it away but I'm impressed with the vegetation! Wonder if they could do that with the one near Carisbrook.
It has taken some years to get to this. The quarry was closed in 1996.
