Oslo Day Three

Last night the weather came down and it rained quite heavily. It was still raining while we were eating breakfast but by the time we were ready to leave, it had stopped. We walked down to the pier and checked out the boat trips. Having just missed one we went to the Nobel Peace Centre and spent quite sometime there. The Nobel Peace prize is presented in Olso, whereas all the others are presented in Stockholm. All the winners are represented in 'The Field' a very novel way of presenting them.

We then took a two-hour trip on the Olso Fjord. This Fjord is very wide and very long. The boat went around all the islands close to Oslo - there are many more further down the Fjord, closer to the North Sea.
I believe that building above is a disused lighthouse which is now a popular, and expensive, venue for weddings.
Going passed the Islands we could see the little houses where the Norwegians love to spend their summers. Apparently 50% of Norwegians have access to one of these and they spend as much time as possible in them.
The dwelling above has a traditional roof of growing grass. Apparently goats are used to keep the grass low - maybe this house does not have a goat nearby!
On one of the larger islands there were little bathing boxes along the coast - these are left over from the days of when it was not proper to be seen bathing and they had enclosures along the bottom for privacy. One thing lacking on all the islands are beaches - the islands mostly just drop off into the sea.

While on the boat it did rain a bit, but it did not spoil the cruise. On return to the pier we took an underground train to the Munch Museum. Robin especially wanted to see the paintings by Edward (The Scream) Munch - the museum is an art gallery really. As we were rather late, and there was only 20 minutes before closing time, we were able to go into the gallery for free. Not being a fan of modern art 20 minutes was more than enough time for me.
