Today Melbourne had the highest recorded temperature ever - 46.4 degrees Celsius. The cat retired to the bedroom with the air conditioner on for most of the day - Kate occasionally had to check her out - which sometimes took quite a while. The rest of us made do as best we could. The temperature outside on our terrace was very high. I went to the local pool, which was packed but very still very refreshing. Pat and I did a few laps but mainly just floated and kept cool.
It has been a bad day for fires across Victoria, South Australia and New South. Down by Jenny's a fire has been raging in Bunyip State National Park but they are fine. There was a fire near to us, in Upper Ferntree Gully which was put under control. But there have been many houses lost across the state and the change which has now come through should help out. Tomorrow's temperature should be a mere 25 degrees and, if we are lucky, with some rain.
The rest of the news was about floods in Far North Queensland (send some of the water down here please) and excess snow in Britain (send some of the snow over here please).
