Letter from Cairo

Since arriving in Cairo it has been all go. The first day Robin and I took a taxi into Cairo and were amazed at the traffic rules – there are none! On the highway two lanes are treated as three but it is ok as everyone does this. The trick is to toot the horn. Dodging between the mayhem are the pedestrians – they cross anywhere, mainly due to the lack of pedestrian crossings. There is a trick to this too – step into the road and hold your hand up. The traffic does stop grudgingly.

Next day we had a really early start for Luxor – 5 am! This is a feature of the tour; latest we ever had to wake up was 6 am. Reason for this is the heat and crowds at the monuments. Usually the afternoons were free so we could relax on the ship and watch Egypt float by.

This is our last day and we have seen so much. Temples at Karnak, Luxor and Kom-Ombo, Tombs at the Valley of the Kings, the dams at Aswan, Old Cairo and of course – the Pyramids and the Sphinx. Robin and I walked around two pyramids and could see just what amazing structures they are.

Our time in Egypt is now over and tonight we fly back to Dubai and onto Gatwick. It has been a great holiday and we are glad we decided to come here.
