School Holidays

We had Sam and Nick with us since Tuesday, when Jenny brought them up. I took them swimming in the afternoon and also the next day as the weather was very, very hot. Tuesday afternoon we were lucky to get into the pool as it was so packed, so on Wednesday we were there before 10 am and had not problem parking and getting in. Pat came with us, which was great as she was able to get Nick swimming pretty well. I also managed to get tickets for the water slide, which had been impossible to do the day before so they had a go on that too.

Thursday morning early Andrew arrived with Adelaide and then left for work. We decided that the pool was not on today because Adelaide would not be able to go in due to her plaster cast so they played around the house etc. As Andrew was staying overnight too, he had the spare room and the three kids would be sleeping on the living room floor. Kate sorted them all out as I went off to a BBQ with the French group I am in - thanks Katy, well done. When I came back they were settled on the floor on sleeping mats, and Adelaide at least was half asleep. The other two took a bit longer to settle down as it was so hot.

Friday morning we woke to rain which was fantastic apart from the fact that we were booked to see Wind in the Willows in the evening. But we figured, if it rained, it rained. Kate had the day off, and as it turned out, so did I. The three kids played together until Jenny arrived mid morning to pick up her two to go visiting old friends nearby. I don't think Adelaide was too bored on her own until Andrew came to pick her up and drive home to Maryborough. The rain had dried up by now, so the drive would be ok.

The rest of us drove into the city and parked together by the Botanical Gardens in plenty of time for the show. It did start to spit with rain during the performance but that came to nothing. The morning show had been cancelled due to the rain. We all enjoyed the show. It has been going for 21 years, so that must say something. There was just one move from where the performance started and that was to Toad Hall, a few minutes walk away. We did not move again, but the kids were divided into two groups that went off looking for Portly (read the book - it is very amusing, and very British) one group to the left, the other to the right. We heard the noise when the two groups converged somewhere behind us, out of view. When they returned, Portly had been found, of course. Then came the battle for Toad Hall, all very well done.

It was still warm as we returned to the cars and drove to Chaddie for dinner at the Pancake Parlour.
